In our final term, the design and technology project the children were engaged in was an environmentally friendly project, in which they successfully built a bird box from scratch.
Before they could start getting their hands on woodwork, they needed to undertake an array of prerequisites. This included; understanding workshop safety, creating a design brief and product specification.
Then the children went on to do some research, exploring contemporary bird boxes. Based on their research they then produced some design ideas from which they generated a final design.
Upon completion of a final design they learnt what and how each particular tool was is used, discussing what type of wood and tools would be best for the job.
They then developed a plan and began constructing their design based on their design specification.
Finally, after completing the project, the children evaluated their product using a questionnaire.
